Game servers

Quick answer: Give Minecraft OP in the server console with op PlayerName. That writes ops.json. For ranks, use LuckPerms instead of permanent level 4.

  1. Panel console (not in-game chat)
  2. op Steve

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How do I give myself OP?
In the server console (not chat): op YourName. Then /gamemode, /ban, /stop. Chat /op only works if you are already OP.
What are OP levels 1–4?
1: bypass spawn protection. 2: /give, /tp. 3: /ban, /op, /kick. 4: /stop and everything. Default is often 4 – too high for co-admins.
Where is ops.json?
Server root next to server.properties. After a manual edit, restart or run /op again.
OP or LuckPerms?
OP is blunt. For ranks, claims, economy: LuckPerms. Keep OP for the owner only.
OP a Geyser/Bedrock player?
Use the exact Floodgate name from logs (often a prefix).
